Creative Arts for Children

Children learn to value themselves and their creative output. Children learn to extend their personal movement styles and explore an ever increasing range of movement possibilities. The children in these classes will learn to work respectfully within a group, both leading, following, watching and developing their listening skills. Children will also learn to appreciate and respond to varied styles of music.

Soul Dance uses the medium of dance and movement to tap the wise, passionate and joyfully expressive being that lies within each of us - waiting to be discovered and brought into fullness.

There are no set steps to learn, so you can’t go wrong, however guidance and a variety of music are provided for you to work with at your own pace. It is a chance to find your unique way of moving - sometimes working alone, sometimes as a group - that leads to greater well-being of body and soul.
Facilitator: Tony Norquay holds an M.A. in Creative Arts Therapy & Education; Grad Dip Movement & Dance; Grad Cert Dance Therapy; he has completed a Diploma in Dance Therapy with Dr Marcia Leventhal and International dance Therapy Institute of Australia and worked extensively with Anna Halprin at the Tamalpa Institute of San Francisco Dancers' Workshop.

Visual Arts
Artists in paint, sculpture, textile, words or landscape draw us into other spaces, both physically and symbolically. Their insights amaze, challenge and open new vistas of understanding and awareness.
The Centre has a philosophy of personal and cultural enrichment. These aims are:
To explore art as a medium for creative development, justice-making and spiritual growth
To affirm the symbols of life and art and the creative rituals of living and meaning-making found within this Boroondara community: multi-cultural, indigenous, multi-experiential, new and emerging, dislocated or disabled.
To promote art as a therapeutic activity, for self-knowledge and life connections.
To encourage the production of art by the community by accessing and supporting a diversity of art forms.
To promote the arts as an integral expression of spiritual development and awareness within the community life of the Centre.
To reduce the sense of isolation felt by artists working in the community.
To provide exhibition space to artists who would not normally have the opportunity to exhibit, or who could not afford the fees of many public and private galleries.
The Centre offers a creative program of workshops in visual art.
The Centre has two exhibition spaces in the complex: one small foyer size and one larger hall space. The photo on the right illustrates artist Eleni Rivers discussing her artwork hung in the foyer space. The hall exhibition space can be seen on the home page. Download the Letter of Offer for the exhibition space.
Art Exhibition Schedule
Our exhibitions (Jan-July 2007) have been sponsored by a cultural grant from the City of Boroondara and the Balwyn Rotary Club. Current exhibitions can be found on our calendar page.
Our spaces support this collaborative involvement with established and emerging artists. Application by pro-forma is required from interested artists to determine their selection. The pro-forma encompasses matters such as level of experience, and intention of their artwork. Phone 9819 2844 for pro-forma.
We are working to establish a visual arts residency. Register your expression of interest via email: office@augustine.org.au (attn Eleni Rivers).
